Ken Burrell is a graduate from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Theatrical Design and Technology. His professional career began as an apprentice milliner for Colorado Shakespeare Festival in 1998. Since then he has worked as a wig/ make-up artist for the Utah Festival Opera, The Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Utah Opera. While at Utah Opera, Ken was a stitcher and worked his way up to first-hand. In 2001, Ken moved to Kansas City and began working for Kansas City Costume Company where he learned cutting and draping which led him to becoming the head cutter/ draper for women’s clothing at Utah Opera and eventually a staff designer at Kansas City Costume Company. At KCCC Ken heads the Performance Wear Division which creates performance costumes for dance teams, special studio designs, and any person or group requiring clothing incorporating stretch fabrics. As a staff designer Ken has co-designed several productions including Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Shrek, James and the Giant Peach and Newsies and is currently working on a large scale production of Cinderella that will premier later this summer in Canada.
